Whatever flag he plays under, that is an incredible achievement.

The best male tennis player in the world. Amazing.

No need to win when his opponent has pulled out injured.

Two Wimbledon titles, Two Olympic Gold medals. Deserves a knighthood under modern standards.

Give him Philip Green's one.

Re: Andy Murray World number one
Great achievement. Up there with his slam titles and Olympic golds as this demonstrates consistent quality.

It's big when you think that he is the first British player of either gender to be world No1 in living memory.

Hopefully now will be considered one of the greats of his era.

Maybe the best British sportsman of my lifetime.

Our footballers should look at what it takes to make it to the top.

A big part of it is that the man HATES losing. He strikes me as the sort of bloke who wouldn't like to lose a game of scrabble with his missus.

Re: Andy Murray World number one
He is not, nor will he ever be the 'best' player in the world. Sports ranking systems usually mean fuck all. Case in point the current FIFA 'top 20'

Rank Team Points
1 Argentina 1621
2 Germany 1465
3 Brazil 1410
4 Belgium 1382
5 Colombia 1361
6 Chile 1273
7 France 1271
8 Portugal 1231
9 Uruguay 1175
10 Spain 1168
11 Wales 1113
12 England 1090
13 Italy 1082
14 Switzerland 1071
15 Poland 1029
16 Croatia 1027
17 Mexico 1001
18 Costa Rica 971
19 Ecuador 932
20 Netherlands 901

Hammer, and he chose tennis?

He should be hitting the net, not deliberately missing it, and getting the goals we so need...

Behave. You actually have to win tennis matches and majors to get to No1 in tennis. The stats don't lie here, whether you like him or not.

You can have a lucky tournament but Murray getting to number 1 is down to hard work, ability and winning matches. Lots of matches.

I expect Djokovic to return to the top but his bad form isn't Murray's problem. As it stands, he is the best player in the world.
